Finding the right work-life balance is so important, for your mental and physical health, as well as your happiness. From throwing on your perfect going out dresses at the weekend and letting your hair down at the weekends, to setting up rituals to create a proper routine for the end of the day, we’ve got you covered.

Have An After Work Ritual To Split Up Your Day

The first thing you should do is to have an after work ritual for when you finish work, so you are mentally creating that separation between ending work and starting your evening. This is especially important if you work from home and struggle to get out of work mode! This ritual will look different for everyone, but some examples are changing out of your work clothes and getting into your loungewear, going to the gym or for a walk to clear your headspace, take a nice shower or put some music on and start cooking. This will look different for everyone, however just setting something in place even if it’s as small as quickly getting changed can really help you to switch from work mode to relax mode.

Take Your Lunch Break

Something else that is really important is to take your lunch break during the day. When you’re having a busy day, it can be easy to work through and sit at your desk to try and get more work done. However, without having the break in the middle of the day, you will likely be much less productive moving into the afternoon and then you will probably feel quite deflated by the end of the day and moving into the evening. When you just take the time out in the middle of the day, whether it’s spending time with your coworkers or going for a walk, you will have a more productive afternoon and then you will also likely find it easier to switch off when you finish work.

Keep Your Evenings and Weekends For Yourself!

It’s so easy to let work creep slightly into our evenings and weekends. Whilst sometimes overtime is unavoidable, making a habit of it can be really unhealthy. So, set yourself boundaries and make sure that you don’t work in the evenings or on the weekend. A good way to do this is start each week and day with a plan and put it in priority order. You’ll get all the most important things done and anything non-essential can be postponed to  the following day or week. Making sure you communicate well with your team and management will help with this!

Instead, plan out fun stuff for your weekends, whether it’s getting dressed up in a corset top and jeans to go out for food with friends, plan a wholesome weekend with family or just have a super relaxed time. Whatever you do, make sure you spend your evenings and weekends doing things you enjoy and you’ll feel all the better for it.
